Tory devolution report back to Redwood days

on Tuesday, 1 July 2008

After years of John Redwood imposing his rule on Wales without an electoral mandate. It's only now that Wales and Scotland have devolved government with the SNP and Plaid running them that they are addressing the question. Why? Because they only care about England. They are an English party, whose first priority is England.

The Tories’ latest report on the West Lothian question focuses on England and English concerns.

In the National Assembly, the Tories claim that they have changed and evolved as a party to reflect the realities of devolution. This is clearly false. After all, their Leader in Wales was one of the leaders of the campaign against setting up our National Assembly. In Westminster, the Tories continue their historic positioning as a London-centric party. Even now, they are now voting against Wales having the tools to do the job, for example, over affordable housing. They are once again taking an anti-Welsh democracy stance.

This report proves that England is the Conservative Party's main priority. It focuses on the West Lothian problem from a completely English perspective, offering very little real and progressive solutions to the issue, particularly for Wales.

Devolution is a reality and the Conservatives need to accept that. Given the conflicting political outlooks of some of the Tories based in the Assembly compared to the ones at Westminster, they clearly cannot be trusted to offer real political leadership for Wales.
