Another Liberal Democrat cock-up has been passed my way. Apparently, the Welsh Lib Dems don't understand translation either, their new HQ in Cardiff Bay is called "Freedom Central", unfortunately for them they have called it "Rhyddid Canolog" in Welsh - the oxymoron "Centralised Freedom".
"Freedom Central – that’s the name that Welsh Liberal Democrat bosses have chosen for their new HQ office in Cardiff Bay.
President Christine Humphreys announced the name in her closing speech to conference in Swansea today. In her closing speech, Christine Humphreys said the new name represented the party’s values, presenting them in a forward looking way.She said: “As many of you will know we asked members to think of a name for the new office in Atlantic Wharf. We were looking for something that reflected our values as a Liberal Party, and said something about who we are.
“We had a number of suggestions: Tŷ Lloyd George; Revolution House; Democracy Chambers; Liberty View; even Liberal Summit – although that wasn’t really appropriate for a ground floor office!“In the end, the panel agreed to call the new office: Freedom Central-Rhyddid Canolog. Because Freedom is Central to this party. I hope you like it."
No Christine, your freedom is centralised. Is that some secret message about opposing more powers for the National Assembly?

They are a real shambles arent they? What a pathetic shower they are!
This leadership contest is a joke!
They have a choice between the nasty Jenny 'Battery Acid' Randerson and that blubbing emotionally challenged airhead Kirsty 'Kleenex' Williams.
What is going on with them?
Have you seen who is backing Randerson? The biggest bunch of losers and headcases walking! Opik and Burnham,
And Kleened - she has the half-wit Peter Black and that daft bloke with the mid-Atlantic accent, Mick Bates!
Doh!
Speaking as a "half wit" you make a fair point. Freedom Central would not have been mu choice. The problem is that it is largely untranslateable. I would be interested in your aternative translation.
What a typical Lib Demmy wishy-washy half-witted, half-baked, dumb-ass answer that was:
"We would love to accommdodate and consider your suggestion for a translation".
Any sensible organisation, with an ounce of nous, would have got the translation right in the first place - before going public!
All this from the party that has the gall to bang on about inaction on a Welsh Language LCO!
The bloody cheek of it!
Is there any wonder their electoral support is diappearing down the pan? What a shower!
It doesn't matter whether its Battery Acid or Kleenex who wins the leadership contest - they are all doomed in Wales and thank god for that!
I hope someone goes takes the trouble to go over their Leadership candidates' campaign websites with a fine-tooth comb to unearth some more crap translations!
We could all do with another laugh at their expense!
You can bet that the same eejit who came up with 'Centralised Freedom' translation will have been involved in working on either Battery Acid's or Kleenex's websites too!
(Perhaps it was their Culture spokesperson, Bonkers Burnham!)
Anyway, here are links - get translating - let's have a laugh!:

Peter, I can't really speak Welsh, ask a proper translator for a translation. Don't you think your party should have done same?
It's truly disappointing that the Liberal Democrats seem to have such a half-hearted approach to the Welsh language that they ask a blogger to name their head office! Who's the official running your party?
I did ask a translator that is how I know that it is untranslatable. There was a genuine attempt to provide a bi-lingual name but the problem appears to be that the chosen nomenclature is too difficult to do that accurately. Personally, I would have thought that you would welcome us asking others for their views. After all politicians are meant to listen.
By the way, anonymous should start a blog. His or her comments are hilarious. Either that or I would recommend an anger management course.
Your right Peter, anon is going a bit over the top. Of course, you didn't have to go for a literal translation. You could have gone for something that demonstrated the same spirit.
Indeed, such as? I will raise that with the Chief Exec because I think that you do have a valid point even if you extrapolation is massively wide of the mark.
