Media out to get Bourne

on Wednesday, 17 December 2008

I was shocked by the front page of the Western Mail which included just an editorial rant about the need for Nick Bourne to stand down. Earlier on this week, I read both Betsan Powys and Vaughan Roderick saying that there was an agreement for a Jonathan Morgan and Darren Millar joint leadership ticket. But then I read this from Darren Millar:

Meanwhile, one Conservative AM Darren Millar has said he is "agnostic" about the need for a meeting but is clear that its outcome should be a "clear backing for Nick Bourne".

Does this mean the story the BBC were sold originally about a Millar-Morgan joint ticket was just coming from one disgruntled senior Conservative member of staff? And if so, does it bring into question their figures about the numbers unhappy with Bourne?

amazed at how the spineless welsh pres, BBc and Western Mail, leaves Windfall Don alone for massive house-selling profits but tries to destroy Bourne for a pissy little iPod.
Evidence if any were needed that Welsh media are Welsh labour stooges.

not o tmention Hain and his 100 grand 'donation'...
I'm not against attacking tories, but let's stop the double standards. There are AMs there with bills for hand-held cameras, mortgages on houses they already owned before being elected, double housing allowances for one couple who both live within 30 minutes of Cardiff, but the media are arselickers.
See the 'Hain is so talented there must be a place for him' lickpittle article by teh Western Mail after he was (as the WM said, 'cleared' (when it was in fact a case of the prosecutors not being able to get the necessary evidence - very diffeernt).
Someone ought to get a PCC invesitgation into the WM's bias.

Pointless Christmas quiz question...

Which Tory AM is still in Cardiff over Christmas - and desparate to get political reporters to sing from his hymn sheet?

This is all so blatant.

It is shocking that Don Touig can be making money hand over fist from public moeny on his houses, Peter Hain is staffing £100,000s without declaring it and Lynn Neagle and Huw Lewis are getting away with double mortgage payments for a house just outside cardiff and yet the Western Mail want Nick Bourne sacked because he claimed for an I-pod!

Well, that's my pojnt: I have little time for tories as a party, but hounding individuals for something this small when there are really gross and cynical and often sleazy misuses of public funds by Labour politicians is a real indictment of the servility and shittiness of our 'national' press.

I must agree with ex-Labour boyo when it comes to hounding individuals. Why go after Bourne and not Cairns or any of the others come to that?

Easy Lenin: they want Bourne out, but think they'd be pissing in their chips by getting Cairns into trouble too, as he's only just been reinstated after a prattish/racist (delete as appropriate) outburst. If they got him too they'd put teh Westminster seat at risk as well as the regional AM seat.
In any case, the tories don;t take the Assembly seriously - they just use it as a leg up to play with the big boys at Westminster.
Opposed devolution, then decided it might help them with their careers after all, not to mention help them stock up on consumer goods, TVs and iPods.
What a bunch sleazebags. The sad thing is that Bourne is the least bad of them - at least he tried to make devolution work for the Tories. Now they're going to fuck him over.
Vicious bunch.
Still doesn;t answer the question about Labour's snouts in the trough and the Western Mail's love affair with Labour...
By my reckoning, Merthyr is 30-40 mins away from Cardiff and Torfaen is 30. What are Huw and Lynn doing with a place in Penarth plus a 'constituency home' each in their seats?
What's Don doing with his big windfall? How much was that again? 200 K? 100?
Why's Hain been feted by the Western Mail, the only paper to use the term 'cleared' to describe the 'lack of evidence' to prosecute, when some sad old tory scapegoat is called upon to resign?
The Western Mail - Welsh Labour's minions.
Pathetic.

You are attacking the Western Mail ex-labour boyo....you can add BBC Wales to that. I don't understand 'Why'. As someone who is pro devolution, I've been quite pleased with Bourne's stance on it remembering he is afterall a Tory. I don't understand why Roderick and Powys are after Bourne and the Mule too unless they are anti-devolultion. That can't be the case. And please nobody mention the dodgy dossier or the ipod. The truth isn't being told.

Boyo - you should certainly add the BBC commentators - both of them are shit scared of Labour, especially the likes of Leighton Andrews and Huw lewis. Betsan won't touch any Labour scandal with a bargepole, and Vaughan might, but only if he's reporting an existing story.
I think they're scared of the Labour establishment, and especially of notoriously touchy people like Andrews and Lewis who write in and demand right of reply and threaten legal action etc. The speed with which they get articles in the Western Mail (Hain too) at the drop of a hat, or use the Mule to promote themselves is shocking.
But it's the really nasty behind the scenes threatening and bullying that Welsh Labour does that really sticks in the craw.
Trust me - I used to help them with it.
