Is Vaughan Roderick trying to bate me? His rate of blogging has reached new levels, and my attempts to translate his posts have left me like dirt tracks in the mud after Vaughan Turbo-driven Roderick has long since broken the land speed record. So here's some very inaccurate translations for you (i'm beginning to see why Ordo gave up this madness):
The argument is worsening re the invitation to the poet Patrick ones to read his work at one of the Assembly rooms on Thursday. I'm sure you remember the background. The event was organised by Peter Black and Lorraine Barret after Waterstones cancelled a similar reading in the face of protests by the "Christian Voice" group.
The Tories news conference turned messy this morning when Nick Bourne said that the Conservative group had written formally to the Presiding Offiver to ask him to ban the event.
Now, often, us in the Welsh lobby are polite people, ddiduedd a diymhongar. But if someone presses our freedom of expression button we turn in a second into a terrorising crowd baying for blood. Nick's announcment was enough to turn many Bruce Banner's amongst us into hulks hwlciaid cynddeiriog. Within a moment the press conference had turned into a fierce debate!
Nick's argument was that holding an event was, in his opinion, an inappropriate attack on religion in the Assembly buidling. He also claimed, that it's possible against the law which prevents inciting religious hatred. It's likely that the Assembly lawyers have already rejected the legal argument and if it's inappropiate to attack on a religious basis in the Assembly buildings isn't it also inappropriate to hold events which dyrchafu religion such as the Carol service Diwali and Eid receptions?
In the middle of all this, there is an unfortunate mistake on the posters which advertise the event which announces, "Everybody Welcome - Croes i Bawb" [translation=a cross for all] - and a handful of nails I'm sure!
Oops!
"Anybody who claims to know when the economy is going to bottom out is being very foolish. Anyone who claims to know when the recession will end knows nothing"
-Rhodri Morgan in a press conference this morning
"I am forecasting growth of between 1 ½ and 2 per cent in 2010. In the years after that, the economy will continue to recover."
