Lib Dem u-turn on free prescriptions

on Saturday, 17 October 2009

Reports come from the Welsh Lib Dem Conference that Peter Black has had a motion passed reversing the party's opposition to free prescriptions. They were of course wrong all along to oppose a policy which delivers measurable social and health benefits, and that rings true with the founding principles of the NHS.

Matt Withers puts it rather accurately:

The motion pointed out: "The Liberal Democrats were right to oppose the introduction of free prescriptions at the time...the situation has now moved on". Which could be interpreted as "it actually turned out to be rather popular with the electorate".

This is the Lib Dems' second welcome u-turn in as many weeks, but it would be alot easier if they got things right the first time.
